Composite Materials Engineering Department
WSU offers the Bachelor of Science in Composite Materials Engineering (CME), the only undergraduate CME program in the nation.
This program in Composite Materials Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET under the General Criteria as well as the Program Criteria for Materials, Metallurgical, Ceramics, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
Program Mission
The mission of the Composite Materials Engineering program is to develop creative minds and innovation in the field of composite materials through education, applied research, and scholarly pursuits in collaboration with the composites industry and community.
Student Outcomes
We aim for CME students to gain the following abilities upon graduation:
- to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, societal, environmental, and economic contexts
- to function effectively in a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
