Aaron Lohmeyer
Dr. Aaron Lohmeyer is Assistant Professor of Music Education and Jazz Band Director.
He received his BA in Religion from Davidson College, MM in Saxophone Performance from Florida State University and both his MEd and PhD in Music Education from Florida State University.
His doctoral work focused on diverse musical literacies and creative practices. His other professional training includes Orff Schulwerk Level I in Kenai, AK, and Levels II and III from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Lohmeyer developed his pedagogy and research interests through public school teaching experiences in:
- classroom general music
- beginning band
- world drumming
- class guitar
- jazz band
- music for special learners
- creative composition
Dr. Lohmeyer’s publications can be seen in Psychology of Music, the Orff Echo, General Music Today, and the Florida Music Director. He has presented both at the state and national levels on:
- Orff-Schulwerk
- jazz pedagogy
- Popular Music Pedagogy (PMP)
- electronic music composition
- music in special education
Dr. Lohmeyer’s current research and practice examines diverse musical literacies for the digitally connected world.
