The Human Resources Management (HRM) major provides a high-quality education designed to build the competencies required to be future managers and/or HR professionals in the private, non-profit, and public sector.

What is Human Resources Management?
Many people are unsure of what human resources management actually is. HRM is the effective management of the human resources of an organization, which are critical to the organization’s success.
The primary goal of human resources management is the efficient use of human resources to achieve the objective of the organization while assisting with the completion of individual goals.
HRM involves all the decisions and practices that relate to managing people in organizations.

Course Requirements
HRM majors take required coursework in a variety of disciplines, such as accounting, business law, finance, marketing, economics, statistics, human resources, and decision-making.

HR is becoming more professionalized. Through Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) SHRM offers 3 HR certificates:
- PHR (professional in HR)
- SPHR (senior professional in HR)
- GPHR (Global professional in HR) certificates

Recently, the link between SHRM and AACSB has increased to standardize the HR education programs. SHRM identified 13 HR content areas and 24 learning modules.
The new HRM curriculum at WSU is aligned with the standardized undergraduate HRM program suggested by SHRM.
