Art & Design Student Opportunities
Winona State’s Art & Design Department offers resources to help give students an enriching educational experience.
Scholarships
Through the generosity of our donors, we can support our students with scholarship awards.
In addition to the general scholarships at WSU, students in the Art & Design programs can apply for many scholarships from the WSU Foundation.
Apply for WSU Foundation ScholarshipsThe Art & Design Department has 2 active student clubs that are fun, lively, and open to students of any major.
The AIGA Club is related to the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the leading professional design organization in the United States. The AIGA Club seeks to raise awareness of the critical role of design in the modern world.
The club designs and sells merchandise. The club also joins other clubs and campus groups to promote events.
They also travel to major cities to attend the annual AIGA Conference. Students in the AIGA club receive mentoring and advice from current design industry experts.
Art Club organizes art jams, film nights, trips to view art in Minneapolis and Chicago, and more.
The Art Club is a place to socialize and to meet others with a passion for art.
Internships
Our Gallery Internships offer students the chance to gain experience with planning, curating and promoting exhibitions. These exhibitions include significant shows in the university’s main Watkins Gallery.
Our Design Internships allow students to gain useful experience working on live projects with real-world clients. These projects often result in student work displayed on cars, company logos, websites, and other promotional material.
Faculty-led Travel Study
In addition to trips to cities throughout the United States, the Art and Design Department offers 4 regular faculty-led study programs to various countries.
- Cities of Fairytales, which explores the rich heritage of the central European cities of Prague, Budapest, and Vienna
- China Now, which introduces students to the rich histories and modern energy of China
- A Taste of Italy, which takes in the culture, cuisine, and art of Italy
- Made From Mountains, which explores the links between landscape, culture and art in New Zealand
These trips are open to students of any major and are a memorable highlight of students’ time at Winona State.
Our global programs are designed to:
- immerse students in the culture and creative arts of our host countries
- be as inexpensive and adventurous as possible
- provide credit toward your degree
