Accounting Program Admission
There is an admission process for undergraduate and graduate programs in the Accounting Department.
Apply for Bachelor’s Degree Programs
Undergraduate students complete the College of Business admissions process to be accepted into the Accounting Department.
Before you can be considered for admission into the Accounting Department, you must first apply for admission to the School of Graduate Studies at WSU.
MPA Admission Requirements
You must have completed a baccalaureate degree with either:
- an overall minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- at least a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credits of undergraduate coursework
Applicants must have earned at least a “C” grade in undergraduate coursework for:
- intermediate managerial/cost accounting
- intermediate financial accounting
- principles of taxation
- auditing
- accounting information systems
Current undergraduate students with at least 90 semester hours earned may apply for advanced standing in the MPA program.
If accepted, you can enroll in 500-level courses concurrently with undergraduate coursework.
The 500-level courses will count towards the MPA degree only.
You must submit evidence of undergraduate degree completion prior to taking 600-level courses.
If you have at least a 2.75 GPA, you may be granted provisional admittance to the MPA program.
Students admitted on a provisional basis are required to have achieved at least a 3.00 GPA after their first 12 credits of course work before being officially admitted to the MPA program.
Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Students
You may seek Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Student status to enroll in graduate courses but not pursue a graduate degree at Winona State.
A maximum of 12 graduate credits earned as a Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Student may be accepted into a degree program upon recommendation of the academic department.
Admission as a graduate non-degree seeking student does not mean guaranteed admission to a graduate degree program. You must still meet all admission requirements and formally apply to WSU Graduate Studies and the Master of Professional Accounting program.
How to Apply
Once admitted to Graduate Studies, you’ll need to complete the MPA program application.
You are not eligible to apply for the MPA program if you are not admitted to WSU’s School of Graduate Studies yet.
In addition to completing the MPA application, you also need to email the following application materials to mpaadmission@winona.edu:
- Resume
- Transcripts from all educational institutions attended
- Statement of Professional Goals: In 1,000 words or less, discuss your motivation for pursing the MPA and how your past work and/or experiences will help you achieve success in this rigorous program
