KEAP Center
The KEAP Center works with the Office of Equity & Inclusive Excellence to create an inclusive atmosphere for all people, organizations, and groups on the WSU campus.
The name KEAP Center stands for:
- Knowledge – facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experiences or education
- Empowerment – authority or power given to someone to do something
- Advocacy – support for or recommendation of a cause
- Pluralism – a condition or system in which two or more groups or ideas exist
These words put into practice WSU’s mission to create a community of learners improving our world.
The KEAP Center provides a variety of programs, activities, and services that help learners develop to their greatest potential and participate in society to their best ability.
Through these programs and activities, students, faulty, and staff within the WSU community are encouraged to explore the ways we construct:
- Identity (who we are)
- Knowledge (what we mean)
- Power (how we assert influence)
- Community (how we relate and belong to each other)
- Culture (how we make meaning)

The KEAP Center is a space for every person—no matter your race, ethnicity, national origin, gender and sexual identity, age, religion, ability, or economic status.
You can schedule your next club or department meeting in the KEAP Center or hold a social gathering with friends in this space. Or you can drop in to talk to fellow students and staff and learn about important issues.
Located in Kryzko Commons 162, The KEAP Center provides a central and visible location on-campus for students dedicated to the hard work of creating a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable campus.
The KEAP Center was created in response to student advocates and protestors who requested physical space on campus to create community and grow together.
One of the founding principles is that the values and mission of the KEAP Center would be overseen by a council of students who are part of the clubs and organizations which fought for its existence.
The KEAP Council has representatives from each of these clubs and organizations.
